If there isn't another option, I'll use this time to do the things that I love to do, like surfing the biggest virgin snow mountain and all these things that I didn't do till now. And I would love to do like free fall. After I'll have a wonderful party with my friends, and for jure I'll play in it. And the rest of the time I would like to spend with my family and my lovely girlfriend.

My hobbies are music and extreme sports, so I would like to do this, and I'll get “white card” , witch in Spanish means, non sleep in the all week and enjoy de maximum.

Can I please get a DJ Killer history lesson, you've been doing your thing for quite a while…

Dj Killer (a.k.a.) Rafa Alcántara, considered as one of the biggest djs/producers of Breakbeat in Spain as well introducer of Breakbeat in his own Country a decade ago. With more than 18 years behind the turntables this artist combined his facet like dj with the producer one. He published more than 30 works like Mx as well as CD, some under his own label Natural Break Records or others like: Virgin Records, Functional Breaks or N´ Mity Sound. He played in lots of events in foreign countries as well as in Spain like Sonar or Glastonbury Festival (U.K.) passing to Break Nation and Flashback Festival in all his editions Espárrago Rock or Satisfaxion Live Dance Festival,…… just to mention some of them.Rafa Alcántara whose using pseudonym Dj Killer to everything refering to House stamped like Dj/producer his own label on Negrita Records or Stereo Cool or Oryx Music between others .

What are the highs and lows of living in Spain and the way of life?

In Spain the life is great, Spain is different!!, the best that it has it's the people, and of course another important thing it's the weather, that gives form to our way of life. We don't spend much time in closer places, as the north of Europe. And the opening times of the bars and nightclubs are better than the rest. The worst of Spain I really don't known, today with internet and plane's tickets you can work really well from here, even if this it isn't London. I find out a few problems to move my discography label from Spain, because I've got to distribute it from U.K. and this complicates a lot more my job. Unfortunately in Spain there are a very few labels and serious break producers that it's why there aren't many dealers agents to export our job.

MUSIC

What breaks tune kick started the love of the music?

The Dast Brother – “Chemical Beat”

Dj Icey – Love (Zone)

What's the Spanish Breakbeat scene currently like?

Back to be better now. It had a beginning and a posterior massive expansion, but it had a decline later, because a few events where were problems facing the laws consequence of this were prohibitions and the ambient change for worst, were less parties too, but it's works better now and people have got more conscience. I think it's a good moment and I wish keeps going like that and gets better. There is a lot of break culture and must to continue.

What was it like when you first introduced breakbeat to Spain?

At the beginning was incredible, the people answer very well. I remember perfectly how they became mad the first time I played “Chemical Beat” of the Dast Brother in a big Satisfaxion´s party in 1994. People light on fireworks and they didn't stop to jump for hours. After that I played songs from Cristal Method, Urbezone, Josh Wink, etc. Were parties where predominate the Hardcore Trance or Techno. At this time was the beginning of a great age. At this time we must to say the people was opener to listen new things and able to discovered this new world, and now everybody think understand about everything and I personally think that they close themselves to know new things.

What would the biggest change you would like to see in the music industry?

I don't know, but I think that could be very convenient to get regulated the legal stuff about music market. This industry it's suffering an important change as consequence of the support it's changing to the digital world and internet. It's truth that not everything it's bad and these new ways contribute to the expansion, the knowing of the music and artists. We could be talking days about this, but I think that there are lots of ways to do everything more legal and more moral. The benefit of this industry witch it is still a lot goes to others different industries totally different to the ones that have relation with the ones connected with this job. I believe as well that at the end many institutions could support any interesting initiative about electronic music, because al less in Spain we don't get much help to do events, concerts create good studies, locals courses, etc. If you compare with other musical styles or others arts like cinema, theatre, its look like our job it isn't an art or culture, but the rest are considerate like that. Where or who says, that this is or not an art. Sure there are lots of things to change so, claim them.

How would you describe your style of DJing and then productions?

I like playing y producing Techbreak focusing the dance floor. I like choosing very well what I play, usually blunt divided bases with techno and electronic sounds and powerful bass. I like to do coherent sets full of clean and nice mixes. I'm very technical and I like the perfection, I search for connect with people, move them all the time during my sets evolution and I don't like very much the commercial music.

What can we expect from ‘Acid'?

I think that both versions complete a good disc. The original one it's progressive techbreak with a principal retro sound that drives us to a melodic stop and starts again with a good groove, perfect for big parties. .The Plaza De Funk remix it is more electronic techbreak; I loved it when I'm listened it. I'm playing a lot this disc and goes wonderful.

Your music has a very immediate, spontaneous feel, is that always the aim – music for the dancefloor?

Good question!! Producing techno I'm very direct, even if is not like that always and will not going to be like that always, but at the end I like to do music for Dj´s and parties more than for another thing, maybe I get more relax producing house. In the future I'll do something focus to an album, but I prefer to conduct my productions to the dance floor now. I would like to do more things that the ones I've got time to do. We should have another life with all the knowledge we learn in this one.

Who do you like at the moment, other artists, labels, parties etc?

For me what Elite Force does it´s one of my favourite things, I like to Dylan Rhymes, Koma & Bones o Hybrid and the ones who comes out gratefully it is The Rogue Element. I do like too what are doing people like Santos, Dopamine o Mortlock. There is very good music now!!!!

What's next for DJ Killer in 2007?

My planes are keep playing and producing, I've got prepare new material for Natural Breaks and Functional, and more staff for other labels, and I would like to amplify my equipment. I'll be there in your land this summer playing at The Glade Festival, The Breaksday Tend, so I hope to see you there.

How do you see the crowds respond in different countries around the world?

I use to get a very good answer, the people respect and value what you do even if every place is different , depending of people, their age, and what they know about this style of music; but in any placer their so hot and expressive as Andalucian people, here they live the party and have fun.

Any last shouts and words of wisdom?

I take the chance to say thanks to my public and all the people who follow me from everywhere of the world, and support me to keep going with my projets.

I World like to say thanks to Biff from Functional for all his support and to you Tom for interview me, I hope you listen a lot of Dj Killer in the future!.
